01 / THE BRIEF

A careers platform for one of the UK's best-known retailers.

Enhance Media, a recruitment-advertising agency, ran the careers sites for some of the UK's biggest employers. I joined as Senior Web Developer and was asked to own the web service. jlpjobs.com was the flagship: the hiring front door for the John Lewis Partnership.

The job wasn't a brochure. It was a live recruitment pipeline: every role at John Lewis and Waitrose, searchable, filterable and always current, for one of the highest-volume employers in the country.

02 / THE BUILD

Enterprise WordPress, fed by Workday.

WordPress at retail-enterprise scale. Jobs flow in from Workday's APIs on scheduled cron jobs, so the site is never hand-fed: the ATS is the source of truth and the platform stays current on its own.

One platform serves two consumer brands. John Lewis and Waitrose each keep their own identity in the search results, the templates and the logos, from a single codebase. And by 2023 I was leading the work, not just doing it: Lead Web Developer, line-managing, owning delivery across the agency's client sites.

The heart of the platform: search with brand filters, fed by Workday. Recreated in miniature. Roles shown are illustrative.

03 / THE AFTERMATH

The strongest QA a build can pass is time.

I left Enhance Media at the end of 2023, on good terms and with a reference offered in writing. The platform didn't need me to stay: in 2026, jlpjobs.com still runs on the theme I built, serving every John Lewis and Waitrose vacancy in the country.

Two and a half years in production without its author. That's the whole argument for building things properly.
