01 / THE BRIEF

A small agency that needed its own operating platform.

Postroom runs email programmes for UK organisations, charities among them. I'm a partner there and lead client delivery. In 2026 the business needed software it didn't have: somewhere to run client work, a way to find and contact new charities without a sales team, and a free audit tool that could turn a Mailchimp account into a scored report the people who run it would actually read.

Nothing off the shelf fitted, and there was no budget for an agency build. So I built it, alongside the client work, on a platform we could keep changing.

02 / THE BUILD

Next.js, React and Supabase, with tests on every change.

The platform is a Next.js 16 and React 19 app in TypeScript, on Supabase and Postgres, deployed on Vercel with Sentry watching it. Three tools share it. The CRM: clients, contacts, tasks, pipeline and a board that says what to do today, on its own database with migrations and seed data. The outreach engine: contact verification, a suppression gate that re-checks every address at send time, a stepped daily send cap, and one approval step per day. The audit tool: a hosted scorecard with live SPF and DMARC checks, written for the people who run the programme, not engineers.

I build with AI tools and review every line myself. That is how the CRM went from brief to production in a fortnight, and why it could: over a thousand automated tests and a CI gate on every pull request mean a fast build is still a safe one.

03 / IN USE

Software the business actually runs on.

The CRM has been in daily use since July 2026. The first dashboard was rebuilt after three weeks of real use because it had got confusing, which is the point of owning the platform: the software changes when the work does, in days, not quarters.

The outreach engine runs the agency's own new-business pipeline. The audit tool is the front door on the marketing site. And every part of it lives in the company's own repo and accounts, so none of it depends on me being in the room.
